Hi Tina -
Good on you! Let them grow until the bulbs are about the same size as your fist - then the trick is to cut them off just above ground level using a sharp knife, instead of pulling them out with the roots intact. This way the plant will reshoot and you should get another crop!

One of the best things about gardening is that every year is different and it never gets boring! This year I'm growing florence fennel for the first time but I'm not sure how big to let it grow. Can you help?

Hi Liz -
Most types of salad greens and soft herbs work well - anything that you normally eat the leaves of. You can find a few ideas here http://www.kingsseeds.co.nz/shop/Microgreens.html

Hi Annabel,

Love your cooking style. I think it is really important for us to feel connected with nature, even in some small way. How great that we can do this with home cooking. Love the simple, but hugely important concept!

Thanks for the great blog! We have been growing microgreens for the farmers markets that we attend in Auckland for the last 3 years but they have only really become popular in the last six months or so!

Hi Glenis - Some Asian supermarkets sell them, but your best bet is a Chinese restaurant or specialist barbecue takeaway. There are quite a lot along Dominion Rd - you'll know you've come to the right place when you see the ducks hanging in the window. You can choose one and they'll cut it up for you or leave it whole so you can take it home. My favourite is Golden Ducks Charcoal Roast, which is in the little Asian alley market between Kent St and Teed St in Newmarket. They cook over charcoal which gives the duck and extra layer of flavour. Enjoy!

Thanks Annabel for sharing such a nice garden, my mother-in-law is your fan, she is from Dunedin- NZ. I am here in Brazil and I do appreciate how you care about growing crops and cooking fresh. Amazing, keep on giving such a nice example to others, that is what makes the whole world of cooking change.

Lots of love,
